Inviting All Iranians To Participate In Mass Demonstrations of Nov. 10, After The Football Games As A Clear Demonstration Of Civil Disobedience
SMCCDI (Public Statement)
Nov 9, 2001

Noble People of Iran,

Despite frantic efforts by Iran's clerical regime to muffle and humiliate the people's mass protests in recent weeks, the mass media worldwide, has widely reported on the heroic efforts of courageous Iranian men and women who are fighting for freedom and democracy in their homeland.

Today, Iranians are fully aware that the only way to achieve freedom and democracy is to unite under the banner of the "Third Force".

The regime is visibly worried about the Third Force's growing momentum. The brutal regime's officials are adamant in calling valiant demonstrators a "bunch of football hooligans" or preventing female spectators from entering football stadiums. Scores of demonstrators have been beaten and arrested, and are languishing in prisons.

However, international pressure forced the regime to allow female football players from Ireland into the stadium. The regime justified its discriminatory act by arguing that Irish women cannot understand the vulgar language used by male Iranian spectators.

The Saturday, 10th November (19th Aban) and Thursday, 15th November (24th Aban) football matches between Iran and Ireland are critical historic opportunities for Iranians of all ranks and backgrounds to join hands in proving to the world community that a regime that talks of a "Dialogue Between Civilizations" (spearheaded by President Mohammad Khatami) is stranded in a political impasse, and utterly incapable of establishing a dialogue with its own people.

The presence of foreign correspondents during the November 10 and 15 games is a good opportunity for the Third Force's civil disobedience movement to clearly show the illegitimacy of the clerical regime.

Valiant People Of Iran,

You should be fully aware that the regime's officials will not hesitate to use the most brutal methods against your peaceful demonstrations. Fruthermore, the regime will resort to every trick and tactic to humiliate your efforts and distort the news.

However, we are determined to achieve freedom and democracy through nonviolent means. We are convinced that there is a dire need for a fair and free referendum.

The shortest and best way to convene such a referendum is the participation of all political forces in outlining Iran's future government, and the codification of a new national constitution.

Let's unite our efforts by participating in mass demonstrations in the streets and squares of our cities on Saturday, 10 November. Let our roars of "Referendum, referendum, this is the people's will" echoe throughout the world.

Victory will be ours because our cause is just !
